An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, repeating until April 28, 2020

This class is for the beginners to intermediate students or the Artist that has not painted for a time and would like to refresh and get motivated. 

Identify key properties of basic watercolor supplies (paper, paint, brushes)
Demonstrate basic paint handling techniques

Demonstrate basic color mixing knowledge by creating a color wheel and a color mixing chart. Students will be able to mix basic colors upon request.

Demonstrate knowledge of color temperature by stating examples of cool and warm colors.
Demonstrate knowledge of value concepts by identifying value ranges and painting light, middle and dark value examples.
Pull all of the concepts together by completing a still life painting, a flower painting and a landscape painting.

Watercolor Supply List-Beginners & Intermediate

Supply List for beginners Class

  1. Arches paper 140 cold press 100 % cotton…9×12  or bigger
  2. Strathmore practice 9 x12 in a pad 
  3. Paint SET, must be professional grade, not STUDENT grade!  Any of these brands are good, Van Gogh, Koi, Turner, Daniel Smith, Holbein, SoHo….just be sure it is professional grade.
  4.  an empty palette with enough wells to accommodate the amount of paints you have.  
  5. Brushes….must be watercolor, the soft hairs.   Get a small. medium and large round.  Can be whatever you like as long as they are soft, and spring back to a point.  You can always add brushes if you can find the long round they are good as they keep their point.
  6. If you choose to buy separate paints, not in a set, be sure you have your primary RED, YELLOW & BLUE.   Add a orange, purple/violet, opera (hot pink), sap green
  7. Kneaded eraser, cheap mechanical pencils
  8. Kneaded eraser,  2 mechanical pencils, rag (old t-shirt ,or paper towels) 2 clear water containers.

At the intermediate stage you must also have:

  1. Something to carry your brushes in, your paints and paper and all your miscellaneous supplies
  2. Sketchbook , either for pencil sketching or painting sketching (each of these have different types of paper)
  3. Value chart, pallette chart, color wheel
  4. T-Square ruler
  5. 3” cheap painters brush ( for adding water when doing our wet on wet techniques).

Please note if you have time order online as the supplies are much more reasonable.  If you already have supplies, bring them.  You will get much better results if  You have professional grade supplies. The big key to paper is it must be 100% cotton, cold press and 140 lbs.  Arches is the best, if you find another brand that is 100%cotton and cold press and 140 that is fine.
